EFCC Has Revealed Those Responsible For Frequent Collapsing Of the National Grid.
According to a post by Tifemax News,The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has revealed those responsible for the frequent collapsing of the national power grid.
The Comission allegedly blamed corrupt contractors in the energy sector for supplying and using substandard electrical materials.
The anti-corruption agency also expressed concerns over the inadequate implementation and execution of capital projects in Nigeria, emphasizing that the country cannot attain infrastructural or economic growth under such circumstances.
Ola Olukoyede, the EFCC Chairman, made these remarks at the commission's headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday during a visit from members of the House Committee on Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes.
This year, the grid has experienced ten outages, causing nationwide blackouts. The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has attributed this issue to outdated power infrastructure.
Olukoyede in an interview said, “People who were awarded contracts to supply electricity equipment, instead of using what they call 9.0 guage, they will go and buy 5.0. Every time you see the thing tripping off, the thing gets burnt, and all of that, it falters and it collapses. It’s part of our problems.
“And if we are able to tackle that effectively, we will make progress as a nation. So, we are doing everything to see how we can prevent that with your support.”
